Every year, over eight million passengers travel through Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). In fact, PIT Airport is the 2nd biggest and most crowded airport in the state of Pennsylvania, next to Philadelphia Airport (PHL). Pittsburgh Airport parking can potentially lead to a few problems, but because of creative designing on the part of the airport superintendents, the airport is ready to adequately fulfill the parking demands of passengers.

There are about thirteen thousand PIT parking spaces accessible to the public on-site. Let’s take a closer look your choices.

Terminal Garage Parking

Garage Parking is, certainly, the most handy parking choice at Pittsburgh Airport. This is a short-term service available in the 2 airport garages positioned in front of the terminal. At $24 daily maximum ($1 for the first hour, $3 for each additional hour), terminal garage parking is excellent for quick trips to the airport meeting or dropping off a passenger.

Airport Long-term Parking

Long-Term Parking is yet another handy choice and a great deal friendlier to your budget. There are 3,750 bays set aside for long-term Pittsburgh Airport parking. Outside Parking

As in every bustling airport, the airport-managed garages and lots usually be at full capacity at a certain point during a given week (especially during the holidays), it’s always ideal to consider other choices outside the airport. There are several remote parking companies who can assist you in case there’s no longer any place to park at the airport. The good thing about these establishments aside from the moderate rates is that you can in fact reserve your Pittsburgh Airport parking space with them well ahead of your scheduled flight.

To name one or two sites, Charlie Brown’s Airport Parking lot on Flaugherty Run Rd offers rates that are equivalent to the Extended Parking rate at PIT airport. The neighboring FastTrack Garage also provides the same reasonably priced fees and both facilities operate their own complimentary shuttle services to bring passengers to (or collect them from) the airport terminal.

Pittsburgh Airport parking, usually during the holidays, can be a little bit of a problem for those people who choose to chance it, without looking at availability initially with the airport’s website (they do post current parking condition in their facilities). Oftentimes, the on-site facilities are filled to capacity and that could very well be a challenge if you’re in a dash to get on a flight.

If you’re commuting through peak season, the most effective approach if you ask me, is to prepare for your travel ahead of schedule and secure your airport parking via internet with the off-airpor providers. Traveling can in some cases be difficult if you choose to worry about a number of things. Pittsburgh Airport parking shouldn’t be one of those.

What Philadelphia Airport parking would you recommend to a friend or a family member? My sister asked for my advice on this recently while planning for a holiday trip to Europe. The family is flying out of PHL to Madrid on a 15-day trip, they live in D.C. but my sister managed to bargain-hunt for more affordable seats from PHL. They’re driving up to Philadelphia from Washington D.C. for the flight and wanted to have their vehicle waiting for them at Philly for some visiting when they get back.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is one of the busiest air terminals in the U.S. catering to more than thirty-one million people every year. With these many people passing through PHL, trying to come across a random Philadelphia Airport parking spot by chance might not be a very good approach. Airport parking (on-site) is convenient but not economical and the facilities can easily get sold out especially during the holidays.

First, let’s evaluate the on-site parking choices. Clearly, the $300 15-day parking price tag at the terminal garages will not do, so we began seeking out budget parking quotes. Budget parking at PHL is available at the lot next to Island Avenue. Still conveniently within sight of the terminal with free shuttle service which PHL supplies but at $11 per day, that could add up to $165 for a 15-day outdoor parking. My sister suggested we should continue searching.

Off-airport, various private companies offer very affordable parking rates for PHL passengers. We considered all the rates and narrowed down the choices to the Colonial parking lot on S Governor Printz Blvd and the ExpressPark lot on Tinicum Island Rd. Colonial charges a trifle more (at $133 for 15 days parking) than Expresspark ($119), but it’s highly endorsed by an associate so we thought the $14 difference is really worth the great standard of service in this site.

However, my sister came to realize that the family would possibly have to stay at a nearby airport hotel when they return to do a little sightseeing in the city the next morning – their return flight from Europe is scheduled to land at PHL at 3:30 in the afternoon – too little time later to check out Philly’s landmarks and drive more than 2 hours back to D.C.

In that circumstance, the best alternative is probably hotel parking, I said to my sister. She was apprehensive that it could get awfully pricey, but when I told her that it’s really the most budget-friendly alternative taking into account their travel specifications she agreed to look more closely.

Once again, we did a survey of all the airport hotels in the vicinity and focused on the alternatives between Ramada Airport Hotel and Skyview Plaza Hotel and Suites. The two accommodations are situated a few miles from the terminal and both field round-the-clock ground transportation. There’s a considerable difference in rates though – Ramada’s room rate for 4 persons packaged with 14-day free parking starts at $189 whereas Skyview only charges $109 for the exact same combo. I emailed a close friend who regularly travels out of PHL and had stayed in Ramada in several instances previously. She reported that Ramada is excellent in her experience and the value difference is well worth it.

Finally, my sister made up her mind to go ahead with Ramada for their Philadelphia Airport parking and needed to know if she can get the 1 day parking fee ($7.95) for their 15th day of parking discounted from the total bill. I left her dealing with the hotel parking manager – that’s my ever penny-wise sister, bless her. Looking forward to enjoying the family pics of Hemingway’s table and the cochinillo asado at Sobrino de Botín.

BWI parking accommodations, by far, are among the very best – compared to the numerous airports of similar size that we’ve visited throughout the the U.S. This is consistent to BWI’s enviable reputation – in 2010, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) was recognized by the Airports Council International as the best airport of its size (15-25 million passengers served in one year) in the world.

If you’re flying out of BWI Marshall and looking for a great BWI parking spot, you should strongly consider parking your car at one of the airport’s own parking facilities. We’re getting ahead of ourselves here, let’s first look closely at the different BWI airport parking alternatives to choose from.

Hourly Parking

The BWI hourly parking rate is relatively lower at $4 per hour (maximum $22 per day) compared to those in Dulles or Philadelphia International, for example. For that amount, it’s also the most convenient, located squarely in front of the main airport terminal. Still, if you’re planning to park for more than 2 hours, this could quickly become a costly option.

Daily Parking

Likewise, the BWI rate for daily parking ($12 per day) is more budget-friendly than in some neighboring airports such as Washington DCA ($20 per day). If you’re traveling for several days, bringing your car to the BWI indoor daily parking garage is not a bad idea.

What can you say about a parking option where you’re whisked by shuttle service from the exact spot where you parked your car right to the terminal doorsteps? When you return, the same free shuttle transport will get you directly from the terminal to where your vehicle is parked. This is basically what BWI Express parking is designed to do and at $10 daily, I’m pretty certain many exhausted passengers could use the service.

Long Term Parking at BWI

If you’re planning a vacation or business trip for a full month and trying to find a parking lot that will not burn a hole in your pocket when you return, the long term BWI Airport parking offer is the logical choice. You can hardly go wrong at $8 per day with regularly scheduled shuttle vehicles to take you to the terminals and take you back to your car when you arrive.

Outside Parking

There are several off-airport privately-run garages and lots open to BWI passengers, like the EconoPark Express on Ridge Road and the Park ‘N Fly lot along Camp Meade Road. These locations provide long term parking rates ranging from $9 to $10 daily and and have their own shuttle transportation. These are often operated by national parking companies managing scores of other similar locations across the country – they’re a good option for parking long-term.

So, why am I strongly recommending the airport-owned BWI parking? There’s just one reason, of course – the rates. It’s far less expensive to park at BWI Airport’s own long term parking lots than at any off-airport location – a thing that’s quite rare in most of the other major airports. BWI goes the extra mile with add-ons like car keys assistance, jump cables for dead batteries, flat tire assistance, sensors in every parking bay – all of which add tremendous value to their best parking service.

There are more than twenty-four thousand Dulles Airport parking bays in service, at the moment. That number should be sufficient for any major airport. Valet Parking

If you’re looking for an extra layer of luxury, you might want to consider valet parking at Dulles airport. It’s convenient to have your car brought to you right at the terminal doorsteps after hours of flying but at the rate of $30 for the first 24 hours and $19 for each additional day, this option is not the most budget-friendly for a lot of people.

Daily Parking

The daily Dulles airport parking garages 1 and 2, located at the back and to the side of the hourly parking lot, are accessible from the main terminal through a designated pedestrian lane. At the cost of $17 per day, these parking facilities are definitely cheaper than the 2 choices discussed above.

Economy Parking

Dulles Airport economy parking lots Gold, Purple, Green, and Blue are located at some distance north of the main terminal. Serviced by free shuttle vehicles, these lots are the best option for people who want to save on their long term parking costs. The daily rate is only $10.

Cell Phone Waiting Area

If you’re picking up someone at IAD and are waiting for your party to call, the airport has a Cell Phone Waiting Area off Autopilot Drive. The area is free to use up to 1 hour only but vehicles may not be left unattended while inside the area. To be appraised of the status of a particular flight, call 703-572-6240 ( be ready with the flight number), while you wait.

Off-airport Dulles Parking

There are a number of private companies who manage IAD parking facilities near Dulles airport. The rates are quite reasonable and these establishments have their own fleets of shuttle vans available on demand or at regular intervals. SpringHill Suites by Marriott, for example, located 3 miles from the airport along Spring Street, offers a wallet-friendly rate of only $8 per day.

Park, Sleep, and Fly

This arrangement is available in most hotels within 6 miles from the airport. A good example of this is the Hilton Garden Inn in Ashburn which provides free parking for up to 7 days and free 24 hour shuttle service to the airport with a one night stay deal starting at $120.

With these different Dulles airport parking choices available, which one should you go with? Of course, it depends on the length of your trip. If you’re planning a prolonged trip lasting several days, however, the best parking choice if you ask me, is off-airport parking. For a 7 day trip, you will be charged $56 off-airport, $70 at the economy lots, and $119 at the daily garages. Compared to the daily rate inside the airport, the ‘Park, Sleep, and Fly’ hotel package looks more enticing – for the same price ($120), you’ll have both parking and a relaxing one night stay at a good hotel before your flight.

Parking at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) need not be an irksome task. Simply do a little research, be familiar with the multiple options available, and book your Dulles airport parking long before your actual flight.

There’s also a courtesy cell phone waiting lot for drivers who are picking up someone at the airport. Unattended cars inside the waiting area will be impounded and you can park for up to 2 hours, but this still beats wasting fuel cruising around the airport or paying the hourly parking rates at the airport garages.

Long Term Parking

If you’re flying out of Reagan Airport during an extended vacation or business trip, daily parking is easily the most prudent alternative. Naturally, just like in any other city, airport-managed parking spots are always offered at premium prices because of their proximity to the terminals. For more affordable DCA parking destinations, your best bet would be the off-airport locations providing comparatively much cheaper rates.

Off-Airport Alternatives

Many of the good hotels near the airport offer very affordable long term parking services. Courtyard Crystal City (half a mile from the airport) and Sheraton Crystal City Hotel (1.20 miles from the airport), both located along Jefferson Davis Highway, have a daily parking rate of only $8 at their indoor parking facilities, for example.

The Obvious Choice

For a hypothetical 5-day trip, you’ll be paying $100 at the airport garages, $60 at the economy lot, but only $40 at the hotel parking locations. Factor in the complimentary shuttle service that will take you to and pick you up from your terminal when you come back from your trip, the choice for your National Airport parking becomes really obvious.

Book Your Parking Ahead of Time

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), being very close to federal government offices including the White House, is relatively more strict than most other airports, in terms of international access, security procedures, and flight distances. Still, with more than eighteen million passengers flying through Reagan yearly, National Airport parking can still be a a bit difficult especially during the peak seasons. This doesn’t have to be your plight, however: just learn about your options and reserve your parking space ahead of time.

If you have little time or would like an always-available Boston airport parking space, you may want to consider their PASSport or the PASSport Gold cards. With these programs you have the privilege of immediate in and out access to parking at Logan airport by simply swiping your card at the meter when driving into or out of the facilities. Registration is required for these programs and pricing is a bit more expensive for PASSport Gold members because of the parking guarantee. As a PASSport Gold member, if for any reason no parking bay is available, your car will be valet serviced without any extra charge.

Off-Airport Parking

There are several independent Boston airport parking providers that operate garages and lots just minutes away from the airport. Most of these provide cheaper prices and regular transportation to and from the airport. One such facility, Park Shuttle & Fly, is open for business a few miles north on William F. McClellan Hwy. Right now, their daily rate is $18.50, with a long term parking rate of $130 per week. Transportation between all terminals and the facility is always available for all parking customers. Always confirm the prices with your parking company prior to booking your reservations.

If you think of the number of Logan airport parking options accessible to you, you are bound to find one that works best for you. Finding the best-priced Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) parking spot doesn’t need to be a daunting experience.

TF Green parking garages and lots, both on airport and off-airport combined, have over 12,000 parking spaces in service at this time. Reserving one of these parking spots shouldn’t be an arduous task. However, for you to get parking in the Providence airport area you have to be familiar as to where these parking spots are located. The Rhode Island Airport Corporation operates six airports, of which T.F. Green State Airport (PVD) is the largest and busiest. The airport layout is traveler-friendly and will allow any passenger in a hurry to quickly get parking.

TF Green is a viable alternative to Boston’s Logan International Airport thanks to less frequent delays and shorter wait time. Apparently, TF Green parking has less hassle and complications that uninformed travelers of Logan Airport may regularly encounter. There are over 8,300 parking spaces available on-site and a good number of outside garages and lots. Passengers and visitors have a selection of hourly, daily, short-term or long term PVD parking.

Hourly Parking

Right in front of the terminals is Lot D, a short-term hourly PVD parking lot. This parking lot is ideal for people who are in a rush to pick up or drop off passengers. The capacity for  parking in this lot is 490 spaces. Parking at this location is $3 for half hour or $6 for an hour, with a daily rate of $26. This short-term parking lot  is the best parking option if you will be at the airport for less than 1 or 2 hours.

Next to the main buildings, accessible from the departure and arrival avenues, are the Providence Airport parking garages A and B.  Combined, these two garages house 2075 bays including handicapped parking and access. The daily rate is $22 at garage A and $18 at garage B.

TF Green parking also offers solutions to long-term parking requirements. Garage C provides the best rates for indoor long term parking within airport premises. Passengers can easily access this facility directly from the terminals. This garage can hold 1500 vehicles with convenient access for handicapped passengers.  The parking rates at garage C are $15 daily or $60 weekly. In addition, TF Green airport also provides economy long-term parking at Express Lot E which holds 4,300 inexpensive parking spaces. The rate here is $11 daily and $55 weekly. Free continuous shuttle service is always available to and from the lot to the terminal building.

Off-Airport Parking

Another alternative you may want to look into for Providence Airport parking, is a private parking facility. There are quite a few well-established parking facilities a short distance from the airport. Most of these have easy-on-the-wallet rates and they do provide shuttle service to and from the facility and the airport. One good destination for long term airport parking is Thrifty Parking on Post Road. The parking rates are $9.95 per day and $49.95 per week. A fast 9 minute shuttle trip will get you to this facility situated less than 5 miles away from the airport.  This TF Green parking provider offers free airport shuttle 24 hours a day and will even detail or service your vehicle upon request. Separate fees will apply for vehicle detailing and service.

Bradley airport parking can be a challenge to the ill-prepared traveler who arrives at this New England airport. However, this doesn’t have to be your fate. If you do a bit of research to understand the parking at Bradley International you should find a spot in no time.

Bradley International Airport (BDL) is a small-sized airport with less than 10 million passengers traveling through every, per J.D. Power and Associates’ airport review. Despite the relatively small volume of passengers, parking at Bradley airport has always been a problem. In the last few years, improving Bradley airport parking has been top priority.

Bradley airport parking on-site is actually well-placed so that it can be conveniently reached via walkways or by free airport transportation. Less than 100 feet away from terminal A are two parking garages – the Short-term Garage and the Long-term Garage. Lot B is another short-term parking lot just a few minute’s walk from the terminals. Four additional long-term parking lots are a short drive away via the airport’s shuttle service.

Parking at the Short-term garage and Lot B at Bradley costs $2.50 for every 30-minute stay and $4.50 for every 1 hour. Daily parking at Lot B is significantly lower at $16 than at the Short-term Garage, which has a daily rate of $24. These garages are  the best parking option for people who are staying for no more than 1-2 hours – just picking up someone at the airport.

BDL Parking Choices on Squidoo

On-site, a number of daily parking options is in the Long-term Garage and in Lots 1, 3, 4 and 5B. The Long-term Garage is close by and has the best half hour ($2.50) and hourly ($4.50) rates, with a daily rate of $20. Its weekly rate is $140. The most economical rates will be found in lots 1, 3, 4, and 5B which are accessible via shuttle service. All of these facilities have an hourly rate of $4. Lot 1 has a daily rate of $11 and a weekly rate of $77. Lot 3’s daily rate is $8, with a weekly rate of $53. Lot 5B has the best rates, currently at $6 daily and $42 weekly.

Off-airport BDL parking lots and garages can save you money with their rock-bottom prices and promo offers. A couple of premium parking companies that I can think of right now are FastTrack on the Ella Grasso Turnpike and Park Shuttle & Fly along Elm St. They do provide free shuttle transportation on demand all day long 7 days a week. The ‘Park Sleep Fly’ arrangement provided by most Bradley Airport hotels is a very desirable alternative, also. Clarion Inn and Suites, for example, provides free parking for up to 15 days, with on demand shuttle service, for as low as at $89 per night. They’re located along Bridge St – just 4 miles from Bradley.

Bradley airport parking need not be a bothersome task for you. Just do a basic online search to learn more about your options. Always check parking fees with off-airport facilities for the best packages available. You’re bound to stumble on a parking facility that works best for you if you  keep looking.

MHT Long-term Parking

Another short-term Manchester NH airport parking option is the cell phone parking lot. This free lot is on Ammon Dr right next to the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower and the parking garage. Needless to say, for the nights that you do spend at the hotel , parking is free – regular room rate starts at $99 per night. For a month-long trip, a one night stay at the hotel to get the reduced parking rate might be your best parking option.

The main thing going for this app, of course, is the PC-less mobile reservation capability. It also features remote hosting which means that, unlike other travel apps, you don’t need to buy the app or to download it to your cell phone. Since it runs on SmartPark JFK’s servers, it won’t be consuming a lot of your cell’s battery time.

The Smart app is quite well-received among the most geeky 25-42 age group and also gaining some following among the over 50 age groups. SmartPark JFK estimates that about 10% of all JFK long-term parking transactions are done through their app.

The obvious disadvantage to this app that I can think of is that it restricts the options available to the passenger. All transactions and reservations are for SmartPark JFK’s in-house parking services only. This isn’t necessarily an onerous arrangement – users in a hurry can conveniently place reservations in just a few minutes from anywhere basically – as long as they brought their cell phones with them. In comparison, it would require them 10 minutes minimum to compare the different offers, if they’re able to see the rates of the other facilities providing parking at JFK Airport. The SmartPark JFK facility in Queens has just recently been established and has some of the cheapest rates in the in the area.
